Bexar County Justice Center

Kell Muñoz Architects undertook the design of a new county Justice Center and the renovation of the existing historical courthouse. The County wanted the new building to modernize, secure, and streamline the processes of the local criminal court system, while complementing the 1890's Richardsonian Romanesque courthouse originally designed by James Reilly Gordon located across the street.

The new Justice Center rests on one of the most historically significant properties in San Antonio, and is bordered by the existing Courthouse, the Plaza de Armas, San Fernando Cathedral, and City Hall. The architectural style of the building represents the serious, important nature of the County justice system, and incorporates the native materials of the surrounding buildings without mimicking their forms.

The complete interior design program included Program Analysis, Space Planning, Inventory, and the specification of Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment.
