Woodlawn Hills Elementary School

Woodlawn Hills Elementary School replaces an existing campus in Southwest San Antonio. The school's design plays on the warehouse district architecture of the surrounding neighborhood and Kell Muñoz Architects enlivened the basic post-war warehouse "box" forms with liberal color, dynamic shade elements and sculpted-metal campus signifiers.

At the entry kiosk's and wave canopy, the firm utilized exterior materials and treatments such as automotive paint and colored glass to symbolize the variety of businesses in the neighborhood. Kell Muñoz Architects also brought these elements inside the school to form spatial neighborhoods between academic areas and corridors. The use of confetti-colored VCT and vibrantly colored paint and ceramic tiles symbolize the avenues of the neighborhood within the building. These elements play an important part of the schools identity.

The new facility accommodates 550 students and contains 26 classrooms, 2 special education classrooms, a fine art
